Men’s Football

Moorpark College Men’s Football faced off with College of the Canyons on Oct. 17 in which the match ended in a 34-7 loss, in their first conference game of the season. The lone touchdown from Moorpark came off of Isaiah Johnson with a four yard touchdown run. The Raiders season record is now 1-5.

Moorpark Football will play a conference home game against Ventura College Oct. 26, a conference away game against Long Beach City College on Nov. 2 and another conference home game against Bakersfield College on Nov. 9.

Women’s Soccer

In the first game of two, Moorpark College Women’s Soccer faced off in a home conference game against Oxnard College on Oct. 15. Carolyn Quandt scored a pair of goals and sophomore midfielder Alexis Ma scored a goal, resulting in a 3-1 win against Oxnard.

In game two of the week, Moorpark played a road game against Allan Hancock College on Oct. 18, which resulted in a 1-1 draw. Dejah Wallot was the lone scorer in the draw, which brought the Raiders record to a 7-3-3 record.

In reference to the team’s winning strategy, Head Coach Jayro Martinez stated, “Well there aren’t any keys for us but instead we see them as team values. Work ethic, commitment, consistency, Max effort and positive attitude.”

Women’s Soccer will play a conference home game against Santa Barbara City College on Oct. 22 and a conference road game against LA Pierce College on Oct. 25.

Men’s Soccer

Men’s soccer has had a tough go of it lately, not winning a game since Sept. 10, Moorpark sought to score a win. In the first game of two, Moorpark faced off in an away conference game against Oxnard College on Oct. 15. In game one, Moorpark was unable to find a way to score, the team performance resulted in a grim 5-0 loss.

In the second game, Moorpark faced off in a conference game against LA Mission College on Oct.18 on the road, which resulted in a 3-2 loss. Freshman defender Jonathan Martinez scored a goal, along with sophomore forward Jason Bar. Moorpark College Men’s Soccer record is now 2-7-2.

Men’s Soccer will play back-to-back conference home games against Santa Barbara City College on Oct. 22 and Santa Monica College on Oct. 25.

Head Coach Jake Gwin had this to say on the teams most recent losses, “There were some individual errors in both technique and decision making which lead to the goals. In addition, we missed several quality goal-scoring opportunities that would have kept us in the game. At the end of the day, it comes down to those moments that you either capitalize on, or you don’t,” expressed Gwin. “Unfortunately, this year, we just don’t have the offensive pop to bury our opportunities with regularity. But the team is working hard together, staying positive, and working hard to improve on all the little things that can be the difference.”

Women’s Volleyball

The Raiders just came off of a home conference win against Santa Barbara City College on Oct. 16, sweeping all three sets. On Oct. 18 the game ended in another 3-0 sweep. Lily Karmanukyan lead the team with 14 kills in the game and Whitney Guthrie followed suit in the back defense with 10 digs.

Women’s Volleyball will play a conference home game against LA Pierce College on Oct. 23 and a conference away game against Cuesta College on Oct. 25.

Head Coach Adam Black had this to say in reference to the team’s strategy, “We have been playing good fundamental volleyball. We ask our athletes to execute what we have trained. We try not to do things that are outside of our ability to execute,” said Black. “We have a system and we believe that if we can execute that system then we’re going to play good volleyball. We have players that work really hard and compete everyday. They put in the effort to improve their game and build solid team relationships.”
