Men’s Soccer
On Nov. 5 Moorpark battled off against Los Angeles Mission College in the first home conference game of the week, in which Moorpark lost 4-2. However, Moorpark freshman forward Bryan Ramos notched a pair of goals in the loss.
In game two of the week Moorpark faced off against Santa Barbara City College in a conference away game on Nov. 8. Jason Bar was the lone scorer for Moorpark, resulting in a 2-1 loss. Men’s Soccer now stands at a 3-12-2 record.
Moorpark Head Coach Jake Gwin commented on the team’s approach heading towards the end of the season.
“The guys know if we minimize our individual errors we can stay in these matches. I hate always focusing on mistakes because there are some things we are doing well, but at this level, against good teams, mistakes are magnified and we are punished for them,” expressed Gwin. “We need to focus on the moments where quality needs to be there and execute better.”
Men’s Soccer will play their final two games of the season, first will be a conference away game against Santa Monica College on Nov. 12 and then a conference home game against Allan Hancock College on Nov. 15.
Women’s Soccer
Women’s Soccer battled against Oxnard College in a conference away game on Nov. 8. Moorpark notched a pair of goals from freshman midfielder Jordyn Rosen and sophomore forward Dejah Wallot in the 2-0 shutout win over Oxnard.
Moorpark will finish off their regular season schedule with a conference home game against Allan Hancock on Nov. 12 and a conference away game against Santa Barbara City College on Nov. 15.
Women’s Volleyball
In game one, Moorpark faced off in a conference away game against Los Angeles Mission College on Nov. 6. Moorpark swept all three sets with Janesa Valoaga posting nine kills and Tessa Tafuri following up with eight digs.
During game two, Moorpark faced off in a conference away game against Santa Barbara City College on Nov. 8. Moorpark swept all three sets yet again. Freshman outside hitter Lily Karmanukyan led the way for Moorpark College with a team high of nine digs, while sharing a pair of 10 kills with teammate Kari Esseff.
Moorpark Head Coach Adam Black emphasized the teams mission.
“It has been a challenge for all of us to stay sharp but I know our team is hungry and wants to be successful. It’s expected that we will be a little rusty come game time but the players and coaches have faith in our process and our ability to work through challenges.”
Moorpark will finish off their regular season schedule with a conference home game against LA Mission College on Nov. 13.
Men’s Football
Moorpark Men’s Football battled against Bakersfield City College on Nov. 9, resulting in a 38-18 loss for Moorpark. Moorpark wide receiver Reece Smith led the way with 100 receiving yards and a touchdown. The loss brought the Raiders record to 1-8.
Moorpark Head Coach Mike Stuart noted the struggles throughout the season, especially within the team’s defense.
“We pretty much have been battling injuries. This week we will probably get two of our kids back that were starters on defense and our corner Colby Williams and then our nose guard Alex Tafoya, so it helps a little bit, but I think these next two teams are more evenly matched for us,” stated Stuart. “They had guys on the other side of the field, no matter what we drew up I think we could execute the things like making tackles, blown coverages, stuff like that were you look at the film, you watch it, like you’re in the game, then you give up these little plays. Try to eliminate those little things on defense, it’s been our big message all week to these guys.”
The Raiders will play the final game of the season in a conference home against East Los Angeles College on Nov. 16.
Women’s Basketball
Moorpark Women’s Basketball battled in the Riverside City College Tournament from Nov. 7-9. In the first game three, Moorpark played against Grossmont College. Moorpark sophomore forward Britt Van Buren guided the way with a double-double, 17 points and 14 rebounds, while shooting 7-12 from the field, resulting in a 105-24 blowout victory against Grossmont College.
In the second game of three, Moorpark played against Rio Hondo College. Moorpark sophomore forward Breanna Calhoun led the way with a double-double, 15 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, leading the team to a 92-70 win over Rio Hondo College.
In the final game, Moorpark faced off with Riverside City College. Van Buren led the way for Moorpark again with an impressive 13 point and 18 rebound double-double, while shooting an impressive 11-12 from the charity stripe, leading the team to 83-48 win over Riverside City College.
Moorpark Head Coach Kenny Plummer reflected on how the Raiders prepared themselves before the tournament.
“We prepare for the upcoming tournament by reviewing film of our last opponent and working on those areas of improvements. We continue to work on our defense which is our teams identity, working on different in-game scenarios and continuing to improve our skill set,” stated Plummer. “We take the same approach with focusing one game at a time and working on how we can get better game by game, learning and improving from each game played.”
Women’s Basketball will play a home game against Mt. San Antonio College on Nov. 15 and another home game against Saddleback College on Nov. 16.
Men’s Basketball
In game one of two, Moorpark Men’s Basketball competed against Glendale Community College on Nov. 6, in which Moorpark won 101-62. Sophomore forward Mason Johnson led the way for Moorpark with a double-double 28 points, 12 rebounds, while shooting 12-20 from the field.
Game two didn’t go quite as well, as Moorpark battled against College of the Desert on Nov. 8, resulting in a 83-80 loss.
Moorpark College will play an away game against Orange Coast College on Nov. 14.
