Men’s Soccer
In the first game of two, Moorpark faced off in a conference home against Santa Barbara City College on Oct. 22. In game one, Moorpark notched three goals courtesy of Omar Cabanas, Jason Bar and Holmer Nunez in an impressive 3-1 win.
In the second game, Moorpark faced off in a conference home game against Santa Monica College on Oct. 25, which resulted in a 0-1 loss. Men’s Soccer now stands at a 3-8-2 record. Head Coach Jake Gwin commented on the team’s performance this week.
“You know, for us, it always comes down to that little bit of extra quality in front of the goal. The chances are there, but we just did not take them against Santa Monica the way we did against Santa Barbara,” expressed Gwin. “Perhaps the canceled practice the day before from the smoke contributed to the lack of sharpness in front of the goal. I usually work on finishing activities on those days. No excuses though, we should have put at least one of those opportunities away.”
Men’s Soccer will play a conference away game against Allan Hancock College on Oct. 29 and a home conference game on Nov. 1 against Oxnard College.
Women’s Volleyball
In the game one, Moorpark faced off in a conference home game against LA Pierce College on Oct. 23. Moorpark swept all three sets with Lily Karmanukyan who lead the team with eight kills and Tessa Tafuri following suit in the back defense with 11 digs.
In game two, Moorpark faced off in a conference away game against Cuesta College on Oct. 25. This time Moorpark won in four sets, dropping the first set, Janesa Valoaga and Megan Wall led the team with a pair of 10 kills each, with Whitney Guthrie leading the defensive suit in 13 digs. This lead the team to win 11 of the last 12 games.
Head Coach Adam Black simply stated the team’s success, “The players are working hard to improve their game and sustain performance. They’re always working at strengthening their mental toughness.”
Women’s Volleyball will have a BYE week on Oct. 30. The Raiders will play at LA Mission College on Nov. 6.
Men’s Football
Moorpark College Men’s Football faced off with rivals Ventura College for the Citrus Cup on Oct. 26 which ended in a 55-20 loss for the Raiders. Fans can check out the full coverage of the game here.
Moorpark Football will play a conference away game against Long Beach City College on Nov. 2, a conference home game against Bakersfield College on Nov. 9 and another conference home game against East Los Angeles College on Nov. 16.
Women’s Soccer
In the first game of two, the Moorpark College Women’s Soccer team faced off in a home conference game against Santa Barbara City College on Oct. 22. Sophomore forward Dejah Wallot scored a goal, along with Carolyn Quandt, resulting in a 2-2 draw against Santa Barbara City College.
In game two of the week, Moorpark played a road conference game against LA Pierce College on Oct. 25, which resulted in a 1-1 draw. Gabriela Portillo was the lone scorer in the draw, which brought the Raiders record to 7-3-5. Head Coach Jayro Martinez reflected on the games back-to-back draws.
“Well, winning is hard a formula to make and even when you think you have a formula of how to win, you still may not win. There’s really no formula of how to win in this game,” stated Martinez. “There is only how well can one do certain skills, actions and accomplish certain principles to help overcome the opponent at the present time. All we can do is keep working hard and take it one game at a time.”
Women’s Soccer will play a conference home game against Ventura College on Oct. 29 and a conference home game against Cuesta College on Nov. 1.
