Women’s Volleyball
Moorpark played against Los Angeles Mission College on Nov. 13, in which Moorpark won in all three sets. Women’s Volleyball closed out their regular season schedule with an astounding 11 straight wins, acquiring the Western State Conference title, including a perfect 10-0 conference record.
Freshman outside hitter Hallie Perkins led the defensive unit for Moorpark with seven digs, while Moorpark sophomore outside hitter Megan Stevens shared a pair of six kills with teammate Megan Wall.
Moorpark Head Coach Adam Black emphasized the unity between the players, stating, “I think we have a lot of talent but, more importantly we have a team full of people who want to get better, who are competitive and who are great human beings that value a healthy team dynamic.”
Playoffs will begin this week for Women’s Volleyball.
Men’s Soccer
Moorpark faced off against Santa Monica College for first game of the week in an away conference game on Nov. 12, in which Moorpark lost 4-0.
In game two of the week, Moorpark faced off against Allan Hancock College in a conference home game on Nov. 15. Moorpark freshman midfielder Cristian Ramirez was the lone scorer for Moorpark, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Men’s Soccer has finished their season with a 3-13-3 record.
Moorpark Head Coach Jake Gwin identified areas of the team that stood out to him this season.
“I can look at the team, and the individuals and say that they have learned a tremendous amount from the beginning of the season to the end. That they were challenged and had fun in the journey together,” said Gwin. “I’ve had the best time coaching these guys as I’ve ever had. It’s a great group.”
Women’s Soccer
In game one of the week, Moorpark Women’s Soccer faced off against Allan Hancock College in a conference away game on Nov. 12. The game resulted in a win for Moorpark with a 1-0 shutout.
In the second game of two, Moorpark Women’s Soccer faced off against Santa Barbara City College in a conference away game on Nov. 15, which had the opposite result from their last game, losing in a 5-0 shutout to Santa Barbara City.
Women’s Basketball
In the first game of two, Moorpark Women’s Basketball faced off against Mt. San Antonio College in a home game on Nov. 15, in which Moorpark won 68-60. Moorpark sophomore guard Jazzy Carrasco led the way with 21 points, 5 assists and a team leading 5 steals.
In the second game of two, Moorpark Women’s Basketball took home yet another win against Saddleback College on Nov. 16. The final score ended at 95-40. Moorpark sophomore guard Breanna Calhoun led the way with 19 points, 5 assists and a team high 7 steals.
Moorpark Head Coach Kenny Plummer clarified the team’s confidence and goals, being one of the best junior college basketball teams in California.
“Our confidence stems from all the hard work and dedication we put into our practice and our teams identity on the defensive end,” Plummer said. “As the seasons ranked preseason #1 team in the south, we understand the target we have our backs and expecting every team’s best. With that said, we are extremely motivated in continuing to work even harder to ensure we stay on top of our game.”
Men’s Basketball
Moorpark Men’s Basketball faced off against Orange Coast College on Nov. 14. Moorpark College recently named Chris Morgan as interim head coach of its Men’s Basketball team following Gerred Link’s transition to Porterville College. Morgan lead his team to victory in his head coaching debut 88-84 against Orange Coast College. Moorpark sophomore forward Mason Johnson led the way with points 27 points, 9 rebounds, while shooting 10-20 from the field.
Morgan was thrilled to be named the interim head coach and win in the first game of the season stating, “It is an honor being named the interim coach at Moorpark College. Getting a debut win is something I think all coaches dream about but it’s more a testament to the group of guys we have than anything else,” stated Morgan. “The resiliency and togetherness they have shown throughout the season and this process especially is really something to be proud of.”
The Moorpark College Athletic Director, Vance Manakas explained the coaching change and the dynamics that are involved.
“Gerred just received the opportunity to have a change in career from coaching to administration. This is a great opportunity for him. Unfortunately for us, it was at the beginning of our season,” Manakas said. “We wish him nothing but the best. Chris has been with our basketball program for two years and will continue the dedication that we have had to the student first philosophy. You will see a team that is disciplined and hard working on the court and in the classroom.”
Moorpark College will play in a tournament at Grossmont College, beginning on Dec. 5.
Men’s Football
Moorpark Men’s Football battled it out against East Los Angeles College on Nov. 16. This was the Raiders’ season finale game. Full coverage of the game can be read here. The Raiders finished their season with 1-9 record.
