Women’s Soccer
On Oct. 29 the Moorpark College Women’s Soccer team faced off in a home conference game against rival Ventura College. Freshman forward Lillie Nice was the lone scorer, resulting in a 1-1 draw against Ventura College.
In game two of the week, Moorpark played another home conference game against Cuesta College on Nov. 1, resulting in a 2-1 loss. The Raiders record is now 7-4-6.
Head Coach Jayro Martinez commented on what the team needs to do in order to get back to winning, by stating, “Taking one game at a time and always trying to play our best.”
Women’s Soccer will play an away conference game against Oxnard on Nov. 8.
Men’s Soccer
In game one of the week, Moorpark faced off in a conference away game against Allan Hancock College on Oct. 29. Moorpark notched three goals by Adrian Ruiz, Jason Bar and Alec Silva, but ultimately suffered a 4-3 loss.
On Nov. 1 Moorpark faced off in a conference home game against Oxnard College. Jason Bar was the lone scorer, resulting in a 5-1 loss. Men’s Soccer now stands at a 3-10-2 record.
Head Coach Jake Gwin commented on the teams most recent struggles and possible solutions going forward.
“You know, our focus has got to be one game at a time. It was a difficult past week,” expressed Gwin. “I hate always focusing on mistakes because there are some things we are doing well, but at this level, against good teams, mistakes are magnified and we are punished for them. We need to focus on the moments where quality needs to be there and execute better.”
Men’s Soccer will play a conference home game against LA Mission College on Nov. 5 and a conference away game on Nov. 8 against Santa Barbara City College.
Moorpark Women’s Basketball
The Moorpark College Women’s Basketball team faced off in an away game against Mt. San Jacinto College on Nov. 2, giving Moorpark the 80-58 win.
Head Coach Kenny Plummer commented on the team’s upcoming season, while reflecting on last year’s success.
“We continue the success from the previous season by building on the development of our student athletes, promoting a culture of fun, competitive, positive and disciplined. With the many new freshman players we have, we are relying upon the leadership and experience of our 3 returning sophomores,” stated Plummer. “We understand that being ranked the pre seasons #1 team in the south that we will have a target on our backs but we believe we are up for the challenge.”
Women’s Basketball will play in the Riverside Tournament taking place on Nov. 7-8.
Moorpark Men’s Basketball
Moorpark Men’s Basketball battled in the Ventura Crossover Tournament from Oct. 31 through Nov. 2. In the first game of three, Moorpark played against Riverside City College. Sophomore guard Najeem Nawabi led the way with 28 points and seven rebounds, while shooting an amazing 8-12 from the three-point line, resulting in an 82-74 loss.
In the second game of three, Moorpark faced off with Antelope Valley College. Sophomore forward Mason Johnson led the way with a double-double 29 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, while putting on a great defensive performance accumulating four steals, leading the team to a 66-65 win.
Men’s Basketball faced off against Pasadena City College in the third game. Sophomore forward Tim Andreolli led the way with 25 points and seven rebounds, while shooting 5-8 from the three-point line, giving the team an 85-71 win.
Coming out of the tournament with two wins out of three, Moorpark is off to a good start of the season.
Men’s Basketball will play a home against Glendale College on Nov. 6 and another home game against College of the Desert on Nov. 8.
Men’s Football
Moorpark College Men’s Football faced off in a conference road game against Long Beach City College on Nov. 2, resulting in a 58-35 loss for the Raiders. Wide receiver Dylaan Lee led the way with 141 receiving yards. The most recent loss leaves Raiders Football at 1-7 for the season.
Moorpark Football will finish the final two games of the season with a conference home game against Bakersfield College on Nov. 9 and another home game against East Los Angeles College on Nov. 16.
